Controls on metal enrichment in ferromanganese crusts: Temporal changes in oceanic metal flux or phosphatisation?
نویسندگان
چکیده
Oceanic hydrogenetic ferromanganese (Fe-Mn) crusts are a major repository for many metals, such as Co, Ni, Cu, Pt, Te and REE, which essential decarbonisation of transport energy systems. Secondary mineralisation processes, occurring during phosphatisation episodes, commonly impregnate the shallower deposits with carbonate fluorapatite (CFA). The suboxic oceanic conditions events frequently invoked to explain lower Co content unusually high Zn Pt older phosphatised crusts. Here, hypothesis diagenetic recrystallization induced by episodes driving mechanism enrichment depletion is evaluated. Accurately dated geochemical profiles, spanning 75 Ma depositional history, shallow (1100 mbsl) sample deeper (3100 unphosphatised from Tropic Seamount in north-east Atlantic, compared. An isocon analysis, allows quantitively evaluate chemical gains losses mass transfer therefore permits compensation dilution effect addition CFA Fe-Mn crusts, demonstrates that no loss has occurred crust, whilst Te, Ni enriched relative younger, crust. Both profiles show sympathetic trends similar amplitudes variation concentration. This excludes metal depletion. Systematic differences between two samples, higher Cu sample, consistent depth profile dissolved concentrations water column. variability observed temporal changes fluxes ocean, result evolving climate oceanographic configuration Atlantic Ocean through Cenozoic. It concluded changing fluxes, rather than secondary process associated phosphatisation, dominant control on primary crust at Seamount.

Metal Enrichment in Galactic Winds
Observations give evidences of the presence of metals in the intergalactic medium (IGM). The stars responsible for transforming hydrogen and helium into more complex atoms do not form outside the galaxies in the standard scenario of galaxy formation. Supernovae– driven winds and their associated feedback was proposed as a possible solution to explain such enrichment of the IGM. It turned out th...
متن کاملMetal enrichment processes
There are many processes that can transport gas from the galaxies to their environment and enrich the environment in this way with metals. These metal enrichment processes have a large influence on the evolution of both the galaxies and their environment. Various processes can contribute to the gas transfer: ram-pressure stripping , galactic winds, AGN outflows, galaxy-galaxy interactions and o...
متن کاملThe Effect of CaF2 Content in Hot Metal Pretreatment Flux Based on Lime
This research was conducted for the purpose of studying the effect of CaF2 content in the composition of hot metal pretreatment flux, based on lime. It was followed in regards to the importance of fluorine amount decrease in hot metal pretreatment and steel making processes. For this purpose, lime based fluxes including 40, 30, 20 and 10 percent calcium fluoride were prepared and hot metal pret...
متن کاملStochastic chemical enrichment in metal-poor systems
A stochastic model of the chemical enrichment of metal-poor systems by core collapse supernovae is used to study the scatter in stellar abundance ratios. Large-scale mixing of the enriched material by turbulent motions and cloud collisions in the interstellar medium, and infall of pristine matter are taken into account. The resulting scatter in abundance ratios, e.g. as functions of the overall...
متن کاملMetal Enrichment in the Intra-cluster Medium
The enrichment of the Intra-Cluster Medium (ICM) with heavy elements is reviewed. There is now good observational evidence for enrichment including abundance ratios and metallicity distributions. Various processes involved in the enrichment process – rampressure stripping, galactic winds, galaxy-galaxy interactions, AGN outflows and intra-cluster supernovae – are described. Simulations of the I...
